Hydrogen Trucks: Everything You Need to Know

Hydrogen Trucks: Everything You Need to Know

We’re seeing a growing shift toward heavy-duty hydrogen trucks, and many big-named manufacturers are taking the leap. In fact, plenty of house-hold names in automotives are teaming up to bring this technology to life. Some examples include:

  • Volvo with Daimler Truck
  • Toyota with Chevron
  • Even Hyundai has a Xcient Fuel Cell model in the works

But what’s fueling the shift to hydrogen automobiles? Green energy.

It’s no secret that heavy transportation contributes to greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Fortunately, this sector is taking steps to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. While hydrogen is a greener tech, it’s important to remember that it’s only considered truly green when it can be produced without any greenhouse gas emissions.

We’ll really see a payoff when this tech is adopted for trucks taking on longer trips and heavier goods. This will also help alleviate some of the problems with electric vehicles (EVs), including an ever-increasing battery size.

The larger the battery, the more it weighs down on the vehicle. But with hydrogen fuel cells, increasing the size of the cell does not impact the weight as greatly.

Another advantage is that hydrogen takes a shorter time to fill up. Batteries can take hours to charge, whereas a hydrogen tank can be refilled in a few minutes.

At Journey Freight, we’re looking forward to seeing this technology grow as we continue to provide our logistical services. If you need a quality transport solution, our team is here to help. We take care of the heavy lifting, so you don’t have to.
